This team served among a people who honor Jesus as a prophet, but don’t know about salvation through Jesus. The workers there had invited us to come teach English classes as a way of helping them and serving the people. At the beginning of the classes, we were introduced as followers of Jesus, so that cleared up any confusion right away! Students took every opportunity to spend time with us outside of class.
We were able to connect with a number of these students on a fairly deep level and talk about matters of faith. Our hosts were good teachers that gave us a lot of introduction into what the local people believe. We were amazed at the openness of people to talk about things of faith.
A great adaptation of prayerwalking was doing prayer-rides from rickshaws (3-wheeled pedal taxis). One specific prayer-ride took us to centers of government, religion, education, transportation, medicine, etc. Our constant prayer as we went around the city was that God would bring these people into his blessing by showing them the way through Jesus.
Some other things that various team members were able to do:
• Visiting patients in hospital
• Visiting a friend of our hosts who had checked himself into rehabilitation program for heroin addiction; able to encourage him
• One of our team members was a Doctor — so he met with several medical people
Each of the team gained a much greater understanding of how to share their faith and were challenged to deeper involvement. We were so glad that several of our students will have the opportunity to meet with our host to study the things of God much deeper after we leave.
NEWS FLASH!! from the time this report was written, 2 of the students taught by this team have come to faith in Christ. Praise God!
