Team Report – #457S

Location: North Africa (Sahara)
Date: Feb 28-Mar 11 2005
Sending Partner: STEM SHARE, Bemidji, MN

As the Muslim call to prayer sounded across the city, the newly arrived team was gathering under a tent to begin their immersion into this land of Sahara sand. In their hearts was a desire to serve God in His long-term plans — but how would that occur in this place so foreign from anything familiar — and where the open proclamation of the gospel is not allowed? It happened through Prayer, Painting, Pupils, and a Plea.

PRAYER — in many places. The constant and underlying task of this team was to pray. From our roof we had a clear view of the Presidential Palace across the street and prayed for the nation and its leaders. Whether walking or driving through the desert, atop a camel or under a date-farmers roof we asked God on behalf of the nation, the nomads, the new believers to see that His son and His word would be honored there.

PAINTING — the team had to learn a whole new style of painting as they served (as visitors!) in a women’s prison. The love and life of Jesus found ways to make itself known, and the long-term workers who minister in the prison expressed much gratitude and appreciation.

PUPILS — Four times the team met with students learning English for tutoring sessions. This gave the team wonderful insight into the personal lives and culture of our hosts. They were able to demonstrate the character of Christ to all and some were able to discuss some matters of faith as well.

PLEA — Please continue to pray with us for the national believers. In a land where the believers are so few, they face pressures everywhere they turn. Their parting plea remains in our hearts and inspires our prayers: “Don’t forget us — please pray for us.”
