September 28–October 03, 2008

Mission Partners: KTIS Radio / STEM Ministries

Partners Partnering with Partners!

Two Minnesota partnersKTIS Radio and STEM Ministries — have teamed up with Iowa partnersCorridor Recovery (a consortium of government and faith based agencies) — to help in the rebuilding processes around the Cedar Falls / Waterloo to Cedar Rapids area, a vicinity of more than 375,000 people. The area affected by early summer 2008 flooding is extensive and rebuilding will take many months.

Here’s how your KTIS/STEM Team will be helping in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ:Flooding

  • By September, the Iowa corridor will be in the rebuilding process after the flooding. Much of the gutting and cleaning out tof homes has been completed (although not all of it), and people are eager to return to their homes and normal lives.
  • Our KTIS/STEM Team will be assisting Corridor Recovery with the clean-up and rebuilding of Cedar Falls / Waterloo to Cedar Rapids area.
  • Cedar Rapids
  • We are looking for skilled and un-skilled people with willing hearts - Although all are welcome. Especially needed are these construction skills: dry walling, painting, flooring, electrical, and plumbing.
  • We will also be looking for evangelism and mercy ministry opportunities while your team is ministering in the east-central Iowa region — so be prepared to listen to people's stories, pray with them, and especially share the gospel with local residents. Many are still in need of a message of hope!

other ways you can help

  • You can also book your group’s very own Iowa Restoration Team! If the Sept 25-28 and Sept 28-Oct 03 KTIS Teams fill up with the first 30 listeners accepted on the teams, you may still book your own separate STEM Team as a group of 12 or more; or join another already-booked Team that still has spaces remaining (more information).
  • Can't go, but still want to help? You can be a sender by praying faithfully for the team, and by supporting them with your donation. When you make your online donation here, simply designate that it be used for the "KTIS Iowa Team" (thank you!). 100% of your donation will be placed into the KTIS/STEM Iowa Corridor Recovery Team budgets.

Making Your Team Fee Payment

Due SEPTEMBER 13

When you arrive at your mandatory September 13 Team Training Meeting, you must pay your $225, $395, or $595 Team Fee (depending on which option you choose) in full. You may either write your own personal check for the entire amount, or submit multiple checks (all payable to "STEM") provided the total of your checks adds up to at least the amount due (any additional monies will be used in your team's budget).

Raising Your Own Financial Support

Friends, relatives, your church, your place of work, other colleagues, and other people may support you financially by simply making their checks payable to "STEM" (do NOT let them put your personal name anywhere on the check itself). You must collect those checks directly yourself, and bring them all batched together to your training meeting. When STEM receives and deposits those checks the following week, STEM will mail out an I.R.S.-qualifying tax-deductible receipt to each of your supporters.

Roundtrip Transportation To & From Cedar Falls

You must make and pay for your own round trip travel arrangements directly yourself. STEM will do what we can to connect people who are interested in car / van pooling, but you are  responsible for getting yourself to the job site.

DRIVING:

Minneapolis / St.Paul to Cedar Falls, IA is approx 226 miles (one way). Allow at least 3.5 hours of actual travel time, plus stops for fuel, food, and rest. You may want to consider car pooling with other team members, and share the costs (we encourage you to coordinate this at the mandatory Team Training Meeting on Sept 13, when everyone will be present.

For the week-end work outreach (STEM Team #633) you should arrive in Cedar Falls at the address you will be given no later than 10:00pm, Thurs Sept 25th, and depart on Sunday, Sept 28 between 1pm-3pm.
